Largely absent from screens since 2019’s female assassin thriller Anna, French high-stylist and stand-alone auteur Luc Besson is now back with the highly original DOGMAN, a quirky collision of rich characterisation and hard-edged action set-pieces to rival the director’s best work in the genre, including LEON, NIKITA and LUCY.

The gifted Caleb Landry Jones (NITRAM; THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI) delivers a masterclass in outsider iconoclasm as Douglas, a fringe dwelling New Jersey man who lives life in a wheelchair, but ultimately overrides the pain and resulting emotional scars of a difficult and often terrifying childhood to become not just a truly inspired drag performer, but also a superhero of sorts. Douglas doesn’t have a super power, but he does have a deadly but loving pack of dogs, and when he puts them to work, a crime syndicate will literally be torn to pieces. A hotly debated conversation starter at The Venice and Deauville Film Festivals, DOGMAN features all of the high-gloss pure cinema that Luc Besson has become famous for, as well as a performance for the ages from Caleb Landry Jones.

“Caleb Landry Jones imbues a boisterously insane action thriller with heart and soul in what must surely be a career-high performance, which is no mean feat for an actor whose work has always been excellent and has so often gone under the radar.” –– Damon Wise | DEADLINE
